I couldn't help myself. Being this near
Zane again, smelling his scent, seeing that cleft in his chin, the smile that
made me and millions of other women weak in the knees, it was too much. The
whole package did me in. He was the sexiest guy I’d ever met, still to this
day.
All I really wanted was to get laid. For
old times’ sake. And because he was the best I’d ever had. But he’d broken my
heart so he was the last man with whom I should even consider having sex.
When I drank the last of my wine, Zane
signaled the waiter.
In seconds, the man appeared with another
chardonnay.
I traced the neckline of my dress with my
finger and Zane’s gaze fell to the vee in the middle. “I’ve always wondered
what it would be like to sleep with someone famous, a man that women everywhere
fantasize about.”
“You’re giving me too much credit,” he
said. “But I sure as hell like where you’re going with this.”
I ran my index finger around the lip of
the glass and dipped it into the amber liquid inside. Then I touched my lips,
pinned him with a stare. “We were so young, so inexperienced back in college.”
His eyes flashed with unmistakable carnal
intent. He took hold of my wrist, licked the wine off the tip of my finger and
sucked it halfway into his mouth.
I couldn't believe I was doing this. Zane
was like an opiate to my system and I wanted one more hit. Just a fling. Then
I’d kick the habit for good.
I’d dated a couple men after college, the
longest being a few months. I’d caught the last one in a compromising position
with one of his neighbors and had foolishly given him a second chance. Never
again. Flings were so much easier. You knew what you were getting—sex, nothing
more, nothing less.
But Zane was in a class by himself. He
hadn't cheated, but he’d broken my heart nonetheless when he’d dumped me. None
of the men I’d dated since could hold a candle to Zane. Not in the looks
department nor in the bedroom.
He was still a bad boy. Hell, he’d even
played one on TV. And everyone knew about his run-in with the law. Reporters
had hounded him about it for months. But he still fascinated me. I hated that
he still had that overpowering pull on me.
